Material Connections - Tabs & Rivets

  • University Of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Peck School Of The Arts 2400 E Kenwood Blvd Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53211 United States (map)

This workshop is an introduction to the fundamental metalsmithing techniques used in creating handcrafted jewelry. Each student will learn the basics of how to effectively use a jeweler’s saw, metal files, and sandpaper.  We will also explore how to execute TWO major types of cold connections - rivets and tabs. There will be opportunities to join different types of metal together, different shapes of metal together, create layered designs, create motion or movement between design components, and integrate larger cabochon stones. We will create pendants out of the material connections and explorations.
